Oh, Meghan Markle is a daily source of grievance for me. So Cringy. So unlikeable. Why are Americans so dumb as to eat up everything she does?? I’m also grumpy about making dinner every night, the landscapers repairing the patio when it’s finally hot enough to use the pool (very first world problem), 8 year olds who still don’t wipe themselves effectively enough and finding out about it at a much later time, husbands who get sick whenever the kids get sick and get laid out much more severely than the kids, baby shark… so many grievances.

“8 year olds who still don’t wipe themselves effectively enough and finding out about it at a much later time” - this made me laugh so much. Whyyy do eight year old boys (in my experience it’s always boys) just not wipe?! They’re in so much of a hurry and then Gross Things Happen.

I read the Markle remark to my (British) husband and he said “everyone does think she’s annoying!” So at least you’re not alone ;)

re: #3- I couldn't agree more. One person I follow on Instagram is a Markle apologist and I just don't see how one can be so blind. I'll stop there b/c I truly could go on and on!

We had a parish priest over for dinner recently and the topic came up about how no bishops come out of our diocese (12 priests are being ordained today and the diocese in general is solid). Fr. put a positive spin on it saying at least we get to keep all our priests and they aren't continually getting plucked for higher positions. Then last week I read a post by The Basic Catholic which mentioned a certain archbishop who has a say in choosing bishops (like the Charlotte, NC one), and it makes me SO mad that designating shepherds for the Catholic Church is ridiculously political, and basically appointing men to snuff out tradition and water everything down is intentional. Despicable.

We can hope perhaps some of that influence will shift under the new pontiff, but considering his job before was the prefect of the Dicastery of Bishops, it’s seems that perhaps those cardinals may have his ear. My husband is a diocesan employee and my son is a seminarian. Our bishop is due to retire this year so all I can say is, who the pope is and what kind of leader he is really impacts my daily life.

Everyone needs to be a grump sometimes. I appreciate your honesty…something opposite and delightful i experienced this week was that you can use a clasp for keeping the chip bag fresh as a hair clip. Highly rec!

Thank you so much for sharing my post! Also, I appreciate this list of grievances and can relate a lot to number one. Why is everything so expensive? I cannot drag all my kids with me to thrift stores to find affordable, well-made furniture. And there are too many steps for my brain to handle in hunting down things on facebook marketplace.

Other things that are making me grumpy: I have a kid whose allergies I cannot seem to alleviate and I'm so tired of being told to try various (expensive) crunchy options. Advice in general, just lately. I know people are well-meaning and that this is a me problem, but I don't love advice that's based on someone else's income level or unrelatable circumstances. Ticks! This has been such a bad season with them where we live.

Thanks for reminding me about Laura's Harriet and Lord Peter essay. I've been meaning to read it! And I'm glad to hear your impressions of Heartburn--was wondering whether it was worth getting a hold of!

PREACH! Sometimes it’s important to acknowledge the grumpiness. And I am right there with you - two kids who have been sick for over a week, and an 18 month old who is already trying to climb out of his crib on his multiple wakeups per night 😱😱😱

We loved ludwig. And we always love taskmaster. Have you watched Would I Lie To You? Lot of the same comedians, another of our favorites!

I’m tired of being told everyone who finds Meghan Markle embarrassing is racist. Actually, she’s just embarrassing.

Taskmaster is AMAZING. I have gotten at least 10 people in my life to watch it, all of whom agreed that it basically changed their lives. It's just SO funny! Did you start from series 1? Highly recommend the New Zealand version, too, whenever you run out of the OG UK series to watch, it's incredible as well in a similar but also wonderfully different way.
