I wrote a paper on Achebe in grad school and then last year wrote study guides on a few chapters of that book. Itβs so beautiful and I love the incorporation of Christian imagery into the novel. Btw, I named my fish Okonkwo in grad school bc I was so obsessed π
Oh that would be such a great paper, I'm sure! And the study guides, that's amazing! I feel like it's definitely a book I could reread, because it probably helps so much to have more of a bearing for the setting and culture. Such a great book!
I read a Poirot between each novel or two I read, sort of as a palette cleanser. Christie creates such fabulous characters and her dialogue reveals so much of them, even if she doesnβt explicitly explain that they are selfish, vain, pitiful etc. I know she grew to despise Poirot in the end but I just find him very endearing, especially when he tries to spur on young love
He's so endearing! And I understand how someone could get bored of their own characters after writing 20 odd books about them! He always ends up having not just insight into the crime itself, but into the interior life of the suspects or other characters that are always so spot on.
Hi! I am currently re-reading Strong Poison and, I have to say- feel exactly the same way about the secretaries! They're a surprise every time. It's an interesting mystery, but I really wish there was more dialogue between Lord Peter and Harriet, and less explanation of how to have a fake seance. I also realized this time around that it takes place over Christmas.
Haha we always forget that half the book is secretaries hiding in offices! Well, I'm so glad it isn't just me. Don't you just want to ask Dorothy what the heck she was thinking?? Did she not have an editor for this book? I feel like I may have to look into this more. And I noticed it happening at Christmas this time around too! I just love all the Peter and Harriet scenes, they're just so perfect.
